Obtaining tickets to the Kentucky
Derby will, like most popular sporting events, require a
little work on your end. You can request reserved
seating tickets directly from Churchill Downs; however,
your chances of landing tickets, and good ones at that,
using this method are not very good. Your best
best is to go through the myriad of ticket brokers who
sell Kentucky Derby tickets, or through auction sites
such as Ebay. While he can land tickets on Derby
Day outside of Churchill Downs, you should strongly
consider locking in tickets for him prior to his trip to
Louisville so that he can enjoy the weekend worry-free,
without having to spend time chasing down those perfect
seats. And where are those perfect seats?
The Grandstand at Churchill Downs provides the most
enjoyable experience - the fans are generally less
rowdy, and this area is more of a place "to see and be
seen". The alternative is the infield (inside the
track), where people traffic is more voluminous, and the
spectators tend to have a little bit more "fun" than
those in the Grandstand. The infield generally
does provide less expensive viewing choices, so it may
be a locale worth investigating.
His trip to the Kentucky Derby would
be more worthwhile if you arrange for him to arrive at
least on the Friday before the Kentucky Derby on
Saturday. Friday is Kentucky Oaks Day (or simply
"Oaks Day"), which features a variety of horse races
that serve as a nice prep for Saturday, and the crowds
are smaller and more civil. It's never to early to
start investigating hotel availability for the entire
weekend in Louisville and surrounding areas.
How many winning horse race tickets
he will have on Derby Day remains to be seen.
However, snagging a few Kentucky Derby tickets will make
you a winner in his book before May 5, 2007 even gets
here.
